I listen to quite a variety of different kinds of music while I’m writing, but there’s something special about movie soundtracks. Soundtracks are always written specifically to go with a story, so maybe that’s what makes them such good music to write to. Sometimes listening to a movie soundtrack can be just what I need to get through a tough scene that just isn’t coming out the way I want it to. Most of the time they’re just instrumental pieces too, so there aren’t even any distracting lyrics, which makes them perfect for times of total concentration.
There are a lot of amazing movie soundtracks out there, but one of my favourite ones to write to is the soundtrack for How to Train Your Dragon. There are so many good pieces of music from this movie. My very favourite one is Forbidden Friendship. This piece is a happy piece, good for a scene of normal life, or a happy scene between friends. It’s also a great one for listening to at the beginning of a difficult writing session to get you in a good mood for writing.
Do you listen to movie soundtracks while writing? What is your favourite soundtrack? What music are you listening to at the moment?
