Top Ten Authors I Own the Most Books Of

My bookshelves are crammed full of books from many, many different authors. In some cases I own quite a few books from the same author. In this week's Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by TheBroke and the Bookish, it’s time to spotlight the top ten authors I own the most books from. The authors on this list aren't necessarily the authors I read the most, that would be a whole other list, but they are clear choices when it comes to the sheer number of books I have of theirs. (My apologies for not working out exactly how many of these books I own, but I wrote most of this post while sitting outside a singing exam.)

1. Kathryn Kenny

I don't know about anyone else, but when I was younger, I used to read a lot of Trixie Belden mysteries. There was something captivating about the fact that a bunch of teenagers were just going around solving mysteries. A lot of the American words used to confuse me for a while, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the stories at all. I have pretty much half the (very long) series sitting on my bookshelf, currently gathering dust.

2. Carolyn Keene

Another writer of mysteries, this time the author of the Nancy Drew mysteries. (Can you tell I love mysteries?) I loved this series for basically the same reason I enjoyed the Trixie Belden books, except that Nancy got to go to exotic places like Venice and England, which made her that little bit cooler in my eyes. While I don't have as many physical books of this as I do of Trixie Belden, I have several omnibuses, which more than makes up for it. (Anyone else remember omnibus volumes of books?)

3. W. E. Johns

There must be pretty much every single Biggles book ever written sitting on my bookshelf, and I have to confess I never read any of them. My older siblings loved the adventures of this aviator, but I was never interested enough in airplanes to bother having a go at these books, so they're sitting on the shelf, mostly unread over the past few years.

4. Charles Dickens

I'm quite a fan of Charles Dickens' books, having grown to love them more over the years (my first time reading Oliver Twist bored me because I was young, and I haven't been able to bring myself to read it again yet.) And we have a large range of them on our shelves at home. I haven't read them all yet, but I'll keep working at it and maybe  one of these days, I'll manage it.

5. Rick Riordan

This is the first author whose books I ever started collecting myself. I have several of the first Percy Jackson series, the whole of the second one so far, and most of the Kane Chronicles as well. I've always liked the ancient myths, and Rick Riordan is one of the only writers I've read so far who really makes the myths interesting and relevant in the modern day. I'm looking forward to his series centered around Norse mythology.

7. Jane Austen

As an avid Janite, it is only fitting that I have all six of her novels on my shelf (and most of them reside in my bedroom.) I'm also proud to say I've read them all too. Admittedly, the fact that I only have six books from her should mean that she shouldn't be on this list. But I do own all her novels, so that has to count for something, right?

8. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

I think I must be rebelling with this list, because I actually own only three books by this author. But one of them does happen to be the complete books of all the short stories he ever wrote, so I figured that he definitely deserved to be on this list. Plus he is the creator of the most famous detective pretty much ever.

9. Willard Price

Willard Price wrote a lot of books about two boys off on adventures capturing wild animals for zoos, something that you certainly wouldn’t be able to do nowadays. They were always off in far flung, exotic places, finding strange animals I had never heard of before, and always fighting off a villain at the same time. We own most of this series actually, and they’re very enjoyable.

10. Enid Blyton

Enid Blyton's books used to be my favourite reading matter when I was younger. I read everything from The Magic Faraway Tree to The Famous Five, and anything else I could get my hands on. Thankfully she wrote an awful lot of books, so I never ran out of reading material. We certainly have a lot of her books still hanging around, and they hold a lot of great memories for me.

Which author do you have the most books from? Have you read any of these authors? And who remembers when books came in omnibuses?

  1. I would love to own Rick Riordan's books! Okay...scrape that, I'd love to just read his books. Embarrassingly, I've only read the first Percy Jackson. Hey. I'm working on it. x) I never really got into Nancy Drew, even though all my friends were bananas over those mysteries. I was toootally a Trixie Belden reader. I actually own a fair few of those but I've read like 5 or something. Hehe. Here's my TTT!

    1. Just think of it this way; you have a whole lot of amazing books waiting for you to have a chance to read them. You've still got all that lovely anticipation. Yays! Someone else who read Trixie Belden. I was half afraid I'd be the only one.

Authors who write for children seem to have the best chances of ending up on lists like this. It's just so much fun to collect their books, aye? =D

Jane Austen, Carolyn Keene, and Rick Riordan didn't make my official Tenner, but they all got honourable mentions at the end of my post. =)

    1. Oh yes. Children's writers seem to be the easiest to collect. I used to get quite obsessed with an author and read everything of theirs. They are pretty cool writers, aren't they? I wish I owned more books from my current favourite writers, but I'll get there eventually.

    1. Yay! Someone else who loved the Nancy Drew books! I read those so many times when I was younger (Still do read them occasionally actually.) She was my most favourite detective at that point. Thanks for commenting!

  6. I know Rick Riordan! That is about it though other than Jane Austen whom I have never read anything by. Shameful. You have a great list I love learning about authors I have not heard of or read yet.
