One of the best ways to discover new books is through word
of mouth. Some of my favourite books were recommended to me by friends, family,
and other bloggers. In this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, a link-up hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, I’m highlighting
ten books that people have been telling me I HAVE to read, but that I haven’t
actually read yet.
1. Code
Name Verity

This book comes quite highly recommended. I’ve seen it
praised on several blogs around the internet (which are always great places to
get ideas for new reading matter from). It’s set in World War 2 and it’s about
a spy. I love spies. I may have to give this book a try at some point.
2.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
Benjamin Alire Saenz

I’ve seen this book recommended on
plenty of blogs. It has an amazing cover. I have no idea what the book is
about, but I’m tempted to read it a) because of the pretty cover and b) because
it has characters called Aristotle and Dante. How cool is that!
3.
Cinder
Marissa Meyer

This book is amazingly popular and I
see it everywhere with people saying that it is a must read. I am actually
going to read this just as soon as I can possibly get my hands on a copy of it.
Sadly though, my library got rid of it right before I had a chance to borrow it,
so I have to track it down elsewhere. Grumpy face.
4.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
J. K. Rowling

Pretty much everyone says I should read this book. It is one
of the most popular book recommendations ever. I think I must be one of the
only people left who hasn’t read any of this series yet.
5.
The Book Thief
Markus Zusak

This is another book that has been recommended to me a lot
of times both by bloggers and friends, especially now the movie is out. I have
actually read the first part of this book. I just haven’t finished it yet. But
as it’s a famous book by an Australian author, I feel honour bound to read this
one. Plus it’s narrated by death, which is cool.
6.
The Fault in Our Stars
John Green

This is an amazingly popular book, and most of the people
who have read it recommend it. I’ve seen it all over the book blog part of the
internet. Obviously I must be behind the times because I haven’t read it yet. Maybe
one day I’ll catch up on all the trendy books.
7.
The Hunger Games
Suzanne Collins

If there’s one book that’s been recommended to me more times
than Harry Potter it would be The Hunger Games. Everyone is still raving about
this book. Yep, I haven’t read this one yet either, though I do like a good
dystopian book every now and then. Maybe I’ll get around to this one eventually, see whether it's as good as people say it is.
8.
Eleanor and Park
Rainbow Rowell

Recently there have been a lot of people talking about how
good Rainbow Rowell’s books are. People are raving about all of them, and this
is one of the ones I’ve seen recommended the most. I do love the style of cover
art for this book, though I have no idea what it’s about.
9. The
Knife of Never Letting Go
Patrick Ness

10.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

What books would you recommend to me? Which of these books have you read? Do you read popular books?
Out of all the books you have, I've only read 2. >.< HP and the Hunger Games. Both were pretty good, vastly different.
ReplyDeleteUm.. What would I recommend?
Hmm. What have I already recommended? XD
Harry Potter and The Hunger Games are definitely the most widely read of the books on my list. I was actually a bit nervous about posting this list because of all the really famous books I haven't read. I'm afraid of not liking popular books and really annoying the fans...It's terrible. Thanks for your comment. I was ever so excited to see you'd stopped by.
DeletePfff. it's your tastes. and sometimes the hype of a book (movie, tv show, whatever) tends to ruin it a bit as well. So, no worries. I wouldn't hate you for it.
DeleteI'd recommend Patricia Briggs.. Umm.. if you're looking for high fantasy type stuff: the Raven Duology is my favorite.. if you like urban fantasy (werewolves and the like): the Mercy series is pretty good (starts with Moon Called)
I'd also recommend de Lint.. I prolly recommended him before. Um.. specifically? Maybe Little Grrl Lost or the Painted Boy or one of those. I liked those a lot. I love a lot of his older work too.. like, the stuff he wrote when he was just starting out before he started writing a ton of books and found his style. Svaha is kinda a neat scifi fantasy by him.
Umm... I recommended to you before the Once Upon a Time series by a few different authors (I'm terrible with names, so they left my head) but one of the books was called Violet Eyes.
That's really all I can think of at the moment..
Harry Potter is awesome! Go read it right now! I also recommend The Hunger Games, Cinder and Eleanor and Park.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
I've heard ever so many amazing things about Cinder, and I read Cress, so I'm dying to read this book. It's one recommendation that I absolutely can't want to read. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteCinder is one of the books that I get recommended every time but I haven't read yet! I guess I will one day :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT
I've been recommended Cinder so many times too. I would have read it ages ago, except my library doesn't have it any more *sad face* We'll both have to read it at some point. I read Cress, the third book in the series, and it was so amazing that I'm just dying to read Cinder now.
DeleteWhhhhat? You haven't read Harry Potter, Hunger Games and The Lunar Chronicles? Waaa! You're missing a lot of in your reading life. They're three of the best books that I've read in my entire reading career. Seriously, you have to up them up on your TBR pile. Have fun reading.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte @ Thoughts and Pens
I felt very embarrassed about having to put those books on my list. People have been recommending them to me for ever so long, but I've never read them. Well, technically I started the Lunar Chronicles, but I started from book three, and now I cant find books one and two. I'm so grumpy about that.
DeleteI've TFIOS on my list too XD Good to know I'm not the only one who hasn't read it yet! Cinder is not bad, and I love Harry Potter as well as The Hunger Games (:
ReplyDeleteSherlyn @ Mermaid With A Book
It seems like most readers have read TFIOS, so it's always very nice to find that I'm not the only one who hasn't read it. Sometimes I feel so behind the times. Thanks for visiting my blog, and for following it. You made my day!
DeleteI haven't read Harry Potter either. I like Narnia and Lord of the Rings though ...:)
ReplyDeleteI've read both of those, and they are amazing books, probably some of the best fantasy books I've read. I haven't made up my mind whether I'm going to read Harry Potter though. Sounds like you have a great taste in books!
DeleteHi Imogen,
ReplyDeleteOut of those books, I've read The Fault In Our Stars, Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games.
The Fault In Our Stars was quite a good read, a bit cliche, but that was okay. There was one part which I was a bit 'ugh' about, but in general was a good story.
Harry Potter... what to say haha. I enjoyed reading the books a lot, and we would go to the book launches and whatnot, but looking back they're definitely not my favourite series. Still very good, though, I think! If you watch the movies (or have already seen them), you'll find that they are very different from each other. I found the movies annoying, purely because I had read the books, but they're still quite good as movies (ignoring that they were based on the book).
The Hunger Games was, again, a good read. The first book was definitely the best written, although I thoroughly enjoyed all of them.
