Writing Music: Game of Thrones

Some music from televison shows and movies is just perfect for writing to. They hold a mood and a story all of their own. Plus they mostly don't have distracting lyrics. One of my favourite pieces to listen to, especially when I'm in a fantasy writing mood (which is very often), is the Game of Thrones theme. Of course, I have a favourite version of this piece as well. I am a big fan of the cover done by singer Peter Hollens and violinist Lindsey Stirling.

This piece feels like a fantasy adventure to me. It has the feel of an epic quest about it, full of determination and drive, moments of hope, and lords and ladies. The scenery in the music video is beautiful as well, and is chock full of fantasy inspiration as well. If you write fantasy or epic quests, you should definitely give this piece a listen.

What do you listen to for fantasy inspiration? Which is your favourite movie or tv soundtrack? What are you listening to at the moment?

  1. I actually like to listen to the four hour version with the entire soundtrack while I'm working. The music is super beautiful and it has a real fantasy feel to it.

    1. There's a four hour version of the soundtrack? I need to find this at once. I can always do with more fantasy style music and this show looks like it has an amazing soundtrack.

  4. [You don't have a contact form, so I'll try to make a short comment. I've tagged you for #WatchMeWrite, an activity where authors record themselves writing and share it on the media. It's a fun way to talk about writing, if you choose to participate! For more information and more instructions on how to do it, you can check out my post on it here: http://semilegacy.blogspot.com/2014/10/watchmewrite-walden-bond-index.html]
