Writing Music: Into the Woods Medley

Being a fantasy writer myself, I love to listen to towards music that is suited to fantasy books. I naturally tend to gravitate towards music that has a sense of wonder and magic to it, filled with strong, bright emotions and quiet strength. Today, I would like to share a piece of music that has fantasy written all over it. This week’s Writing Music is a medley of music from the movie Into the Woods, performed by the ever amazing Lindsey Stirling.

This medley has an overarching feeling of hope and happiness to it. Being a medley, it wanders through several moods, all of which are very positive and quite happy. This is a piece of music that to me suggests scenes of bright hope, freedom, or simply joyful happiness. In particular, to my mind it conjures up scenes involving magic, discovery of beauty in unexpected places, and a sense of wonder.

What type of scene does this piece suggest to you? What are you listening to this week? Recommend me some great music!

  1. Listening to the piece, it describes a scene where a character has endured something, but has hope for the future, something which I think is greatly shown in the movie (I really want to watch it tonight; I hope I do)!

  2. She's like a real princess in real life! This was a fun movie, I'm glad she made a cover of it! :D

Hey, I wanted to give you soundtrack recommendation, one I thought you would enjoy. Assassination Classroom: It's full of diverse music genres like jazz and techno, orchestral and concert band that cover different ranges of emotion that are perfect for writing! Track 8 is especially awesome for writing an intense scene, espeically when it switches up in the middle for a more hopeful vibe. My other favorite tracks include 4, 10, 16, 17, 19, 20, 24. Sorry I don't mean to overwhelm you, but there's just so many good tracks XD

Here's the playlist link, I hope you find a few favorites! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBCO2xn4rWM6X5Ic_KiPaPBxb57ZYB6q8

There's so many different styles and moods in this album, it's amazing! I'm definitely feeling the jazz in there. It's an awesome mix of different types of music.
