You may remember that a couple of weeks ago, I sent out a
distress call, begging for music to help inspire and motivate me. The response
was overwhelming. If you go and look in the comments, you’ll see a huge list of
songs that people recommended to me. I’m awestruck at your kindness. Thank you
everyone. There’s so much epic music there that I’ve decided to share some of
my favourite pieces with you in a sort of mini-series featuring music that you’ve
suggested. I won’t be able to post all the pieces as there are so many, but if
you’re interested, the full list is in the comments below THIS post.
Audiomachine-Battle of the Kings
(Thanks to Gemma Fitz)
This is an amazing piece with atmospheric choral support, a
sense of urgency, and a dash of determination. It’s perfect for a heart
pounding climax, a battle, fight, or even a final confrontation with the
villain of the book. It would suit a fantasy, sci-fi, or possibly even a
historical book.
Audiomachine-Amethyst
(Thanks to Gemma Fitz)
This is a gentle piece that is filled with a sense of wonder
and awe. It feels like discovery, stumbling upon a hidden nook, or a brand new
world. I think it would also make a lovely accompaniment to a romantic scene
personally. It would suit a sci-fi, romance, or any book really, that has a
sense of wide-eyed wonder, discovery, and beauty.
Walk the Moon-Shut Up and Dance
(Thanks to Jos R.)
This is an amazing feel-good song that’s been getting me in
a good mood for writing. It is an actual song with words, so it might not be
the best song to listen to while actually writing if songs with words bother
you, but it’s still well worth listening to, if only to lift your spirits. It
just screams love on the dance floor. It would be the perfect song for a
contemporary or a romance.
Have you heard any of
these songs before? Which is your favourite? Got any song recommendations for
me? I might feature it in a future Writing Music: Your Suggestions post!
Audiomachine is soooo awesome!! I'm glad you enjoyed my suggestions. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm listening to "Shut up and Dance" right now, and I LOVE it. Perfect for contemporary, which is what I'm getting ready to write pretty soon here. So thanks for sharing!
I loved them! In fact, I'm looking up more Audiomachine now that I've discovered how amazing their music is. "Shut Up and Dance" such a catchy, feel good song, isn't it? I'm glad it suits something you're working on. Thanks for stopping to share my music.
DeleteWalk the Moon is a cool band, I often forget about how much I like them though. :P :D

"Shut Up and Dance" is the first song of their's that I've heard, but I'm definitely planning on listening to more of their music. Thanks for visiting Abi.
DeleteI go through phases where I listen to ALL the music, then other times when I want absolute silence. Right now I'm in the silent phase, but when I transition back to music (which I inevitably will) I'll have to come back to this post!
ReplyDeleteSilence definitely has a place in the writing process. Hopefully some of these songs will help you when music shows its head in your writing again. The Audiomachine songs in particular are very good.
DeleteUgh, I LURRRRVE "Shut Up and Dance" just because it is boppy. The others are good too, although obviously not as boppy, but they would be good writing music for sure! Personally, I'm in an eighties phase and so "It's Raining Men" and "The Logical Song" and "It's Raining Again" and so on are all lovely songs (okay, maybe not lovely. Just enjoyable...). And I've had some Scarlet Pimpernel business going on, of course. Thanks for sharing these discoveries with us!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I know much eighties music actually. I shall have to look up those pieces. I haven't listened to any of the Scarlet Pimpernel music either. Is that another bit of awesomeness I should be investigating pronto?
DeleteI have actually not heard of any of these before, but I really like Amethyst. That's my favorite of these three. Soundtrack music is my jam haha. Good picks!

Soundtrack-esque music is some of my favourite to write to. It always gets the creative juices flowing. I'm glad you liked Amethyst. It's so pretty!
DeleteOh goodness, Walk the Moon is one of my absolute favourite bands - all of their music is just so uplifting and feel-good (I'd definitely recommend listening to "Anna Sun", if you haven't already; that is one of my favourites!). Looking forward to seeing more of these beautiful suggestions - I'm always looking for more writing music, especially if it's recommended by fellow storytellers. xx
ReplyDeleteI have not listened to "Anna Sun" yet. But now I think I must. Walk the Moon are so talented. I may have found a new source of feel-good music. I'm really glad you liked this post. It's so nice to be able to share music with everyone, especially when it's music that's been recommended to me that I can pass on.
