It’s day four of NaNoWriMo. Writers are settling into their groove.
The initial adrenaline rush may be wearing off by now, but, powered by tea and
chocolate, writers are powering their way through the first week. And what a
first week it has been so far. I’ve been super encouraged by watching the
amazing progress of my writing buddies over on the NaNoWriMo website and seeing
their updates on Twitter. Wherever you are in your word count at the moment,
whether you’re behind, on par, or racing ahead, you are amazing.
For me, the first four days have been highly successful. I’ve
participated in about a million word wars (I highly recommend following @NaNoWordSprints
on Twitter if you want a place to find word wars all day long), my characters
have settled into their book, and I haven’t quite consumed all my motivational
sweets yet. Now, you may remember that on Monday, I wrote about my three goals
for this NaNoWriMo. So, what progress have I made?
Goal 1. Write In Ten
Different Locations
As you can see, I’ve managed three so far. However, these
are the three easiest, and I rarely venture far from home, so filling all ten
spaces may be a little tougher than I thought. Still, progress, right?
Goal 2. Achieve Three 10k Days
I’ve made another handy dandy little graphic for this goal
(this is also the Excel spreadsheet I set up as a second place to track my
NaNoWriMo progress,). As you can see, I’ve achieved this goal, which was
certainly a surprise to me! I doubt I shall be able to keep this pace up for
long though. But now I need a new goal. Any suggestions?
Goal 3. Write Two Books
Good progress here too. I’m about halfway through the first
book, Blood Debt at the moment, so I’m
well on track to write two of them, provided I stay motivated throughout the
month. However, trouble may be looming. I’ve come to the end of the part I
outlined. Now it’s time to get my pantser on and figure the rest of this plot
out.
So, that’s how I’m going with my goals. And now for a few
snippets. Because snippets are fun! Being that Alyssa@The Devil Orders Takeout
is also running Snazzy Snippets this month, I’m linking up with that too!
How is your NaNoWriMo
going? If you’re not doing NaNoWriMo, what are you working on right now? Any
suggestions for a new goal for me?
Wow, you are a writing machine! 10,000 words each day so far? Keep up the excellent work! And by that I don't mean I expect 10,000 words per day for the rest of the month.
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I'm not participating in NaNoWriMo this month because of grad school. Whenever I'm not working on essays, I'm editing a novel and daydreaming about the story I'm planning for next year's NaNoWriMo.
I really like your goals, by the way, and I especially enjoyed reading your quotes. They're intriguing. :)
Thank you for your encouragement Azelyn! That's probably a good idea, not participating in NaNoWriMo while being busy with grad school. Good luck with the book you're editing and with your studies.
DeleteYour snippets are awesome! Can't wait to see where else you're able to write, too! That's such a fun goal! XD

Thanks Jamie. I've really enjoyed writing this book. Can't wait to go back and edit it and make it all shiny and nice to read now!
DeleteI reeeeally love that last snippet. xD YAY FOR THREE 10+K DAYS IN A ROW!! *showers you with cake and sprinkles* That is truly awesome and amazing!! I used to struggle to get to 10K but I find if I manage my day okay, I can definitely get there. XD My proudest moment was getting 8K done in 2 hours. o.O But it was an action scene so really exciting and fast and I think my fingers were smoking. ahha. BUT OTHERWISE. I usually spend about an hour per 1K. *nods* Good luck on finding other places to write, too!! Under your bed??? Under the kitchen table??? DO THESE COUNT.
ReplyDeleteAction scenes are the best for getting words written quickly. My focus is usually all over the place while writing, so 4k hours are rare unless I'm really word warring. 8k in two hours is epic!
DeleteMy NaNo?! NOT AS FANTASTIC AS YOURS. I'm literally only 8k words in xD Keep up the great work Imogen!
ReplyDelete~Noor
Thank you Noor! I hope your NaNoWriMo went really well for you.
DeleteOH OH OH OH CAN I STEAL YOUR GRAPH IDEA THAT IS THE MOST GENIUS EVER!
ReplyDelete(I may post it on my blog because seriously that is amazing but I will give you all the credit. xD)
Haha, thanks. Everyone may have graphs. Free graphs for all!
DeleteCool snippets! The story sounds so neat! I'm doing well. I've already written 13,625 words. ^ ^

Thank you Victoria. I'm rather in love with my book. Not the execution. That could do with some work, but the book itself is still pretty cool, in my mind.
DeleteWow, 10K in one day is amazing! Not doing Nano this year, but I've definitely been staying up late to get some writing in and make some more progress with my first draft of my current WIP. It's nice to know that there are plenty of other writers out there working towards the same goal!
ReplyDeleteKnowing that you're not alone in your writing attempts is such a good feeling, isn't it? I think that's one of the biggest reasons I love NaNoWriMo so much! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteOMG I love your first goal. It's so creative even though I'd never achieve that. I love the premise of Blood Debt SO MUCH, and the prose is just *grabby hands* And school inviting itself inside -- ALL THE YES. GAH.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with us!
Thank you for hosting this link-up. I was so glad that I had something I could use for it. It's such a good idea.
Delete*bows down* 10k every day is amazing, what an awesome progress! And I really love the snippets, especially the first one. Really interesting concept.
