It’s the third week of NaNoWriMo. If you’re participating,
congratulations We’re over the halfway mark. I hope the Week 2 blues didn’t hit
you too hard, and that your characters are helping you find your amazing plot. Whether
you’re ahead, on par, or behind, you’ve done an awesome job to get so far. Now
that we’re over the mid-point, it’s a good time for me to stop and recap my
progress over the month so far and see how I’m getting on with my three extra NaNoWriMo
goals. As if NaNoWriMo wasn’t a hard enough challenge as it is.
Goal 1. Write In Ten Different Locations
I have another two locations to add to the list this week.
As you can probably tell by now, I do a lot of my out-of-house writing in the
car, especially outside music lessons. Having long tracts of time in an
isolated location away from people and wi-fi, with nothing but coffee, music,
and my novel, is pretty much a recipe for productivity most days. My total is
up to six this week, but I have to admit, I’m not sure where to go for my next
four locations. I may have to get creative with this goal.
Goal 2. Achieve Three 10k Days (Achieved Nov. 3rd)
The writing is rolling along pretty well, though I have to
admit, after that initial frenzy of writing in the first week, I seem to have
settled down to a pretty steady rhythm, averaging around 5-6k words a day. No
more amazing 10k days for me so far. I’d love to have one more this month, but
with birthdays, uni assignments, and other end of month commitments, this may be
a little tougher to achieve.
Goal 3. Write Two Books (Part 1 Achieved Nov. 13th)
Book one of the month, Blood
Debt is finally complete, and at way more words than I thought it would
take. Usually my first drafts take between 60-70k words to finish, but this one
blew out to a massive (for me) 88k. And my second book, an untitled
Action/Thriller, looks like it’s going to take even longer. What even happened
to my books this month? I’m definitely on track to finish two books this month
at this point though.
And now it’s that time again. Time for me to share a few
more excerpts from my novel. Because hopefully that’s one of the things you’ve
been looking forward to through this whole post. Most of these quotes are from Blood Debt, but the final quote comes
from my new project, which I am loving so far. Enjoy!
And from my new book:
How is your NaNoWriMo going? Are you ahead, on par, or behind? If you're not doing NaNoWriMo, what have you been doing this month? Got an excerpt of your own to share? Post it in the comments!
Not doing Nano, but this month I have been doing a ton of writing and am actually re-writing the first half of my current WIP. It's kind like a second draft, but it's not, so I don't really know what to call it...
ReplyDeleteBut I'm having so much fun and have really gotten to expand on my plot and world building, plus really knowing each character's personality and backstory better this time around. So far I'm over 20K, which is really exciting for me! My goal is to get 50K by the end of December considering I'm also working on other short stories.
I'm so glad that you're having fun with your rewriting. The best part of rewriting definitely has to be expanding on all the backstories and world building, and knowing the characters better. I love being able to make more sense of the characters. Good luck getting to 50k by the end of December. I'm sure you'll be able to do it!
DeleteWow for progress! Have you thought of writing in a park or the library? NaNoWriMo went really well! I finished on the 18th! ^ ^ It's the fastest I've ever written a book. ^ ^

I'm so impressed with your speed. Congratulations on being finished so fast! That's quite an achievement.
