Writing Music: Ice Dance

Music is always very important to me when I’m first drafting, and especially during NaNoWriMo when I need all my concentration for churning out my daily word count. Today’s music comes from the movie Edward Scissorhands, which is a movie I haven’t actually ever seen. I stumbled across this piece quite by accident, and was rather pleased when it became an instant favourite.

Ice Dance is a beautifully emotive instrumental piece. Like the name suggests, it evokes images of ice and snow and pretty landscapes. To me, it also feels rather like it would fit a gentle climax, not one with battles and big villains, but the conclusion of a love-story, or the conclusion of a personal battle. I think it would suit an ending scene very well. This piece is perfect for romances, fantasy, fairytales, or pretty much anywhere thoroughly gorgeous pieces of music are required.

Does music help you concentrate on your first drafts? If you’re doing NaNoWriMo, how are you going? What music is helping you write your novel? Recommend me some great music and I might feature it in a future Writing Music post!
