Top Ten Books I'd Love to See as Movies

It’s been quite a while since I took part in a Top Ten Tuesday, a literary link-up hosted by TheBroke and the Bookish, but this week’s prompt was too good to pass up, combining two of my favourite things: books and movies. This week I’m listing ten books that I think would make awesome movies. If this were a perfect world and the full awesomeness of every book could be translated exactly onto the screen, then these would be my top books that I think would be AMAZING as movies.

H.I.V.E Series
Mark Walden

The whole H.I.V.E series would make the best series of action packed movies. With a cast of awesome heroes/villains, A.I., robots, cool gadgets, dramatic fight scenes, unique settings, and a gripping plot, these books are just asking for a movie series with the cinematics of the Avengers to bring them to life.

The Bones of Faerie Trilogy
Janni Lee Simner

I’ve seen plenty of post-apocalyptic books and movies, but very, very few post-apocalyptic fantasy ones. This series has man eating plants, portals to other worlds, and desolate landscapes that would make for beautiful cinematography and CGI, and the plot, with all its fantasy elements in the apocalyptic world, is so cool. It would make a perfect addition to the post-apocalyptic category.

The Lunar Chronicles
Marissa Meyer

I have no idea whether this book would really work as a movie. All I know is that if someone could do it well, then I would be the first to buy a ticket. I want to see Cinder and her friends in full colour on the big screen, please? I’m seeing this movie with gorgeous visuals like in the new Cinderella, or like the Thor movies.

Heist Society Series
Ally Carter

These books were just made to become at least one movie, if not more. If you took Now You See Me, mixed it with a little of The Prestige, and added a little of The Italian Job to a sassy main character and completely crazy supporting cast, then you’d pretty much have the movie I’ve got playing in my mind when I think of these books.

The Looking Glass Wars Trilogy
Frank Beddor

This Alice in Wonderland retelling has such great potential for a movie. It’s got so many cool elements to it, and such great characters. Plus the Hatter. I need that Hatter and his awesome weaponized hat to become a thing in a movie. I could see this movie having the same weirdness factor Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland movie had, but with action and magic multiplied by six.

Dead To You
Lisa McMann

While this wasn’t my absolute favourite book, it makes it onto my list just for the sheer weird factor this story has. It’s the story of a formerly kidnapped boy trying to fit back in with a family he doesn’t remember with such a surprise twist at the end. It wouldn’t be an epic, sweeping movie, but it could make for a really great suspense-filled film.

The Shadow of the Bear
Regina Doman

I love a good fairytale retelling, whether it be in book form or in a movie, and Regina Doman’s retelling of Snow White, Rose Red would be just gorgeous in movie form. Set in the city with a cast of amazing characters and a bit of a mystery to drive the plot on, this would make for a movie like Cinderella mixed with a little of the gritty city atmosphere.

The Raven Boys Series
Maggie Stiefvater

I have no idea if these books would make good movies at all, but if they could be made perfectly with all the awesomeness of Gansey, Blue and their friends, I think I could die happy. After watching them about a million times of course. I need to see these characters for reals. Plus the epic plot. Stiefvater on the big screen? Sign me up!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Ransom Riggs

While I enjoyed this book, I kind of felt that the weirdness I was promised didn’t really come out that well. But take the characters and their peculiar powers, like the boy spews bees from his mouth, put that on the screen and all of a sudden it becomes a lot weirder. This movie could have such a great creepy atmosphere to it.

Wildwood Dancing
Juliet Marillier

I couldn’t end this list without adding yet another of my favourite fairytale retellings, Juliet Marillier’s beautiful retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses. This one needs beautiful visuals, like in Cinderella (I seem to be referencing that movie a lot), along with some creepy-gorgeous fae. This would just be so pretty in movie form.

These are the top ten books I’d like to see as movies. What books are you dying to see on the screen? Are you participating in Top Ten Tuesday this week? Link me to your posts!

  1. Did you know Miss Peregrine's IS a movie and I think it's coming out next year?!! I'M SO EXCITED. TIM BURTON IS DIRECTING. *flails forever* I actually wasn't such a huge fan of the book, but as a movie (Tim Burton!!) it'll be marvellous. xD And zomg, you've just reminded me how badly I want to read The Looking Glass Wars and Bones of the Faerie. AND YES TO HEIST SOCIETY. It'd be the teenage Italian Job. XD Here's my TTT!

    1. I did not know that! Tim Burton is pretty much the perfect person to direct that film. I'm so excited now! Someone needs to mention to Hollywood about Heist Society needing a movie. or a series of movies. Someone make it, pretty please?

  2. We had quite a few of these in common HIVE, The Raven Boys and Heist Society. It's great to meet someone else who likes HIVE, I don't know anyone IRL who likes it and no one in the blogosphere seems to talk about it, not sure why, those books are awesome!

    1. It's always so exciting to find another fan of H.I.V.E. I know a couple online, but no one in real life at all. But you are so right. The books are amazing. I wish more people realised that fact. What's not to love about an academy dedicated to producing villains, and the adventures connected to such an excellent institution?

  3. Miss Peregrine's I feel would make a terrifying movie. I have never read the book personally but front he pictures alone...yikes! Great list!

    1. If the creepiness of the pictures in the book could be translated onto the big screen, the movie would be amazing. The story really needs a good creep factor I think. Terrifying, but amazing at the same time.

  4. YOU'VE READ WILDWOOD DANCING *flails dramatically*

    1. You too? Awesome! I haven't met many people who have. It's such a beautiful book I'm sure it deserves more recognition.

  5. I love your picks! Heist Society is on my list too this week, I would love to see that as a film! And the Raven Boys! Oh how I love them! I want all of Stiefvater's books to be turned into film or tv shows! But they have to be perfect...

    1. Stiefvater's books would be AMAZING as movies. But I totally agree, they would ave to be made absolutely perfect. The original is so good that the movie would have to work hard to keep up with it.

  6. I'm hoping the movie of Riggs's book will be as awesome as the source material.

    1. Me too. Now I know that a movie is actually being made, I hope that they can stick close to the spirit of the original. If Tim Burton is indeed directing it, the creep factor will be there, but they're going to have to work hard with the rest of it. Imagine how amazing it would be if they pull it off though.

  7. I really want to see The Lunar Chronicles and Heist Society movie adaptions as well! I'm kind of so-so on the Looking Glass Wars... The series was all right, to me. I will agree with Raven Boys; if they manage to pull off the movie magic while sticking to the plot of the series it will be great!

    xoxo Morning

    1. There are elements of The Looking Glass Wars that would work really well on the screen. i wonder if they're the sort of books one can have a little leeway in the adaptation of? Heist Society is the one I'd most like to see at this point though. The plots, the characters and all the humour. Sign me up!

  8. HIVE and the Lunar Chronicles—gurl, you read my mind! I think Mark has said he'd envision the HIVE series working out well as an animated feature much like the Incredibles, but I personally think it would do better with real actors, and be similar to Ender's Game. But that is just my thought. :D

    1. I can imagine it as an animated feature, but honestly I don't think that would do the story justice. It needs something live acted with a big budget. I haven't see Enders Game unfortunately, but what I do know of the movie and the way it looks, that would be so perfect for the H.I.V.E books.

  9. I would love to see The Raven Boys on screen (I lean more toward TV show for some reason... maybe pacing?)

Also, H.I.V.E. would probably be great as a movie series (I still have to finish the series, actually... I might have to get the UK publications, I'm not sure what's going on with the North American ones...)

    1. The Raven Boys as a TV show would be interesting. I hadn't thought about it that way before. I wonder how the plot could be restructured to fit in with the episodes? Someone should brainstorm that idea. I wouldn't mind a TV show. More hours of fun to watch!

  10. Bones of faeri caught my eye, and you're right there is not a lot of post apocalyptic fantasy out there. Your description makes me want to learn more, I'll have to look into this book. :) And I've heard good thing about the Ally Carter books too, I'm sure those would be fun.

    1. You definitely should. It's different to a lot of the post-apocalyptic novels I've read before, and it's actually a very refreshing change. Ally Cater is another awesome author. Her books are stuff full of humour and cleverness. Definitely worth reading if you ever get the chance.

  13. I would love to see the Cinder books and Heist Society! They would both be great adaptations. I particularly would love to see Heist Society. It would be like a YA Ocean's Eleven type movie! Plus, seeing any of Ally Carter's characters come to life, would be amazing!

    Great list!

    1. Ally Carter is a queen of writing interesting, spunky characters with personalities that ooze through the pages into the real world. Seeing them come to life would be the best, definitely.

  14. YES to Heist Society! I've only read the first two, but that's definitely enough to make me agree! And I can't wait for the Peculiar Children movie to come out, I love those books!!! XD
