Top Ten Books On My Spring Reading List

18:00

It’s Top Ten Tuesday time again! Goodness, it feels like an age since I participated in one of these. This week’s prompt, from the lovely people at The Broke and the Bookish, is, what are the top ten books on your fall TBR list? Being in Australia, it’s spring, not fall, but I still have a reading list to share. I shared my reading list last year too, when we did this prompt before, and at the end, I’ll be sharing how I went on finishing those books (here’s a hint, it doesn’t look good).

Percy Jackson's Greek Gods
Rick Riordan

I’ve had this book on my shelf for a while now, but haven’t read it yet. The pile of library books is stacked higher than the Eifel Tower most weeks. My sisters assure me that it’s hilarious, as I expect from Rick Riordan, and I love Greek myths, so I’m really looking forward to finally getting around to reading this.

Black Water
David Metzenthen

Another book that’s been languishing on my shelf begging to be read. I’ve read two of David Metzenthen’s other books, Tiger Fish and Jarvis 24, and thoroughly enjoyed them. So hopefully this book will continue his streak of brilliance.

Fairest
Marissa Meyer

It’s a Lunar Chronicles book by Marissa Meyer. Do I even need to explain why I need to read this? Also, Winter, when that one comes out. I need both these books in my life so much. This series has got to be one of the best fairytale retellings I’ve ever seen.

Waking Rose
Regina Doman

Another fairytale retelling, and the third book in the series. I’ve read the other two, and I’ve had this one sitting on my Kindle for an age, but I haven’t yet got round to reading it yet. I will though. Fairytale retellings are the best.

Bird By Bird
Anne Lamott

I’ve started this book, but didn’t finish it due to too many assignments and not enough free hours. But so far it’s just as good as people said it was, and I can see why it’s one of the most recommended writing books on the internet. Can’t wait to keep reading and see what else she has to say.

The Book Thief
Marcus Zusak

This one was on my list last year too. It feels terrible to admit that in a whole year, I’m no closer to finishing this book. I will. I must. But it just…hasn’t happened yet.

Deadlock
Mark Walden

I think this is the only H.I.V.E book I haven’t read yet, and I feel dreadfully behind. I need to know what happens to Otto and the gang. Yet another book on this long list that I’ve had for a while and neglected to read. I think this is going to be the season of reading books I actually own. Gasp!

Magnus Chase And The Sword of Summer
Rick Riordan

More Rick Riordan. I don’t know if this book is even out yet, but I know that I desperately want it in my life. Maybe a birthday present? I loved his Greek God books, enjoyed the Egyptian ones, and now I need me some Norse myths. Pretty please?

Faerie After
Janni Lee Simner

The third book in the Faerie trilogy. Faerie Winter and Bones of Faerie were both amazing, some of my favourite books I’ve read in the last year or so. Now I need book three. I have to find a copy of this one somewhere. (Cue fruitless library search and many bitter tears as I can’t locate a copy.)

Demon Road
Derek Landy

Derek Landy. Need I say more? The Skulduggery Pleasant books are pure genius, so funny and sarcastic and witty. Demon Road is sure to be as good. I am so jealous of all those book bloggers who have gotten to read and review the book. Why can’t I have this book now?

Last year’s list: How did I go?

Throne of Glass (Sarah Maas): I didn’t manage to read this one unfortunately, though I still really want to. But I’m tied to whatever the library has, and they haven’t discovered this book yet apparently.

The Blood Of Olympus (Rick Riordan): I read this one. I believe one of my sisters actually got it for a birthday, so I gobbled that up as quick as I good. The Heroes of Olympus series just keeps getting better.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue (Maggie Stiefvater): Another present to a sister. Read it. Loved it. Can’t wait for the next book to come out. Maggie Stiefvaters books are the best.

Hollow City (Ransom Riggs): I actually borrowed this one from the library a couple of times, but never got around to reading it, even though I liked the first book. I guess it wasn’t the right time to read it, but in the future, who knows?

The Ask and the Answer (Patrick Ness): I so want to read this. The Chaos Walking trilogy has such a cool concept, but the library only have book 1 and book 3. Usually that doesn’t bother me and I skip the missing books, but somehow it feels wrong to even consider doing that with these books.

A Monster Calls (Patrick Ness): Never found a copy of this one either. That’s the refrain of my life it seems. All these awesome books and I can never find them when I want to read them. One day, when I’m not a penniless student anymore…

The Book Thief (Marcus Zusak): I actually started this one buuuuuuut I haven’t finished it yet. I will get around to it. Eventually.

Princess of the Midnight Ball (Jessica Day George): Again, I so want to read this book, but no chance of it yet. I’ve been waiting over a year in the hopes of reading this, but so far, no luck.

The Meeting Place (Janette Oke): I did actually read this one. It was ok. Nothing spectacular and a bit predictable. But good for a quick read.

Panic (Lauren Oliver): Read this one too. Have never read any Lauren Oliver before, I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. I’m hoping to explore some more of her books in the future.

Have you read any of these books? Any books you would recommend I add to my reading list? Are you participating in Top Ten Tuesday? Leave me a link to your post in the comments!

  1. Agree about The Meeting Place (from last year's list). Princess of the Midnight Ball is on my TBR list too, but not this week's post... it's been on my TBR for at least two years lol. The Book Thief - sigh. I read it but I'm in the minority that didn't really like it. Also, I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't read anything by Rick Riordan or Marissa Meyer lol. My TTT

    1. It's been on my list for about that long too. It sounds amazing, and I'm a big fan of Jessica Day George's books, but I can't for the life of me find a copy of it. Ah well, one day it'll happen.

If you ever get the chance, you should definitely try one of Marissa Meyer's books, especially if you're a fan of fairytale retellings at all. They're actually really good, well worth reading.

    1. Yay, I'm not the only one who hasn't read it! Most people I know have read it by now, and I've been feeling rather behind on the trend. Phhft. When have I ever managed to keep up with a trend anyway? Thanks for visiting Laura!

    1. I so want to read Fairest, as soon as possible if not before. Marissa Meyer is such a good writer, isn't she? I've actually been putting off reading The Book Thief a little. I read one of Markus Zusak's other books and didn't really connect. I'm sure The Book Thief is awesome, but I'm a little wary of reading it just in case I don't quite see it's fabulousness like everyone else has.

  6. Fairest is so good! And The Book Thief is amazing--it's one of the only books that's ever made me cry. Also, I feel your pain on not being able to get The Ask and the Answer from your library--I definitely wouldn't recommend skipping it. It's really good, and Monsters of Men won't make much sense without it.

    1. The Chaos Walking series is one of those series that commands a bit of respect. I wouldn't dream of moving on without reading The Ask and The Answer first. Now, if only I could find it...

  7. OH MY GOSH IMOGEN DEADLOCK THOUGH THE FLOOPITY FLOOPITY FLOOPITY FLOO YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT ONE OF THE GREATEST INTERESTING THINGS THAT IS I CAN'T TELL YOU BUT SERIOUSLY I HAD TO PUT THE BOOK DOWN AND SCREECH AT MY SISTER BECAUSE NO WAY DID I SEE THAT COMING PLUS THERE IS LOVELY PATERNAL ACTION BETWEEN NERO AND RAVEN AND BASICALLY YES I AM STILL HUNGOVER WHY DO YOU ASK?

Also, Fairest was very good. The Percy Jackson myth book sounds a little interesting, but I haven't been able to compel myself to get going. *sigh* I hoe you enjoy all these reads!

    1. Paternal action between Nero and Raven? Sign me up! Why I haven't read it yet when the rest of the series is so amazing I will never know. After your comment, this book has shot up towards the top of my reading list. I must know what happens next!
