Writing Music: Sandra’s Theme
19:19
It’s Friday again, which means it must be time for another
Writing Music post. This week we’re taking a break from our Writing Music: Your Suggestions series,
but rest assured, it’ll be back again very soon. I still have so much amazing
music to share that you guys have recommended to me. This week’s piece actually
came from author Maggie Stiefvater’s Twitter (no, I’m not cool enough for her
to tweet to me. I’m just good at stalking her online.) While I’ve never seen Big Fish, I instantly fell in love with
this piece, Sandra’s Theme, composed
by Danny Elfman, when I first heard it.
To me, Sandra’s Theme
feels very much like a fantasy piece. With its delicate woodwind and strings,
it evokes images of the countryside, and especially of the woodlands. I don’t
know why, but woods always seem particularly fantasy-esque to me. For the most
part, this piece is calm, peaceful, poised and graceful, but it also holds an
undercurrent of mystery, perhaps hinting at some discovery lurking just around
the corner. This piece would suit the beginning of an adventure, the first
steps from the normal world.
What does this piece
evoke in your mind? What authors do you follow on social media? What music
would you recommend I check out? Suggest me some great music and I might
feature it in a future Writing Music: Your Suggestions post!

I like this piece. It does really have the feel of the start of some grand adventure. You've never seen Big Fish? You really should! It's a great movie!!
ReplyDeleteNo, sadly I haven't see Big Fish. But I do love the music. I shall have to seek it out and give it a watch. Thanks for stopping by Madilyn!
DeleteI've never seen this movie either, but you're totally right about the soundtrack. It's kind of a fun experiment to listen to a soundtrack and guess what the movie will be about:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
It really is as fun experiment. I actually have another Writing Music post coming out in November where the music is from the soundtrack of a movie I've never seen. Movie soundtracks are such an amazing source of writing music. Thanks for stopping to listen!
DeleteThis is a neat piece! I saw this film a long long time ago and I barely remember it. XD So long ago I didn't even remember it had a good score. It definitely has a fantasy feel which goes with the premise of the movie which is a man who tells big fish aka tall tale stories and no one knows if they're true or not.

That's an interesting idea for a movie. With that and the gorgeous soundtrack, I definitely think I shall have to track this move down and give it a try. Thanks for visiting!
