Discussion Holiday Writing

Christmas is getting closer and closer, and I don’t know
about you, but life’s getting pretty busy for me at the moment. Christmas
shopping, Christmas cooking, Christmas parties, the occasional burst of sleep
between activities, Christmas is a very busy time indeed. I always struggle to
find enough time to be able work on my writing during the holiday season, so
much so in fact, that I’m actually taking the whole of December off from everything
writing related, except my blog. It can be very hard to balance writing and
other commitments at this time of year, especially, I’m sure, if you’re in
school or university at the same time.
Obviously, getting any writing done in the Christmas holidays
is something I fail at rather spectacularly. So I’d like to hear from you guys
who somehow manage to keep valiantly trucking on through one of the busiest
times of year. How do you manage to carve out time for your writing? Do you
struggle to find a balance? What tips would you give to anyone attempting to
write and live the Christmas life at the same time (give me allllll your
secrets!)? And, if you have a blog, are you taking time off over Christmas, or
are you going to blog all the way to the new year? Let’s chat!

For Christmas time I have a very low goal for writing. Only 1K a day. I'm also taking a two week writing/blogging hiatus from my blog, so December/January because my annual rest months for at least part of them.

That sounds like a very good plan. It can be very difficult to blog and enjoy Christmas at the same time. I have been thinking about taking a break over Christmas myself because it's such a busy time of year, but I'm very undecided.
DeleteAlthough I shouldn't be giving advice on being productive (haha), I always find it useful to carve out time when people expect you to be doing something by yourself. For example, I usually try to get some work done right before I go to bed. By that time of day no one's waiting for me to come and participate in Christmas-y things, I've been "released." Maybe that time is in the morning, or when everyone is taking an afternoon nap. But I've found that it's not worth it to miss out on important Christmas-y things.

Very true. I find that people in the writing and blogging world seem to be most understanding in the Christmas period too, so if things do go off the rails a bit in blogging at least, they're very forgiving. I have to say though, in the novelling department, I admire anyone who can keep their head in the right space for writing during the Christmas period. But those are great tips! I shall be using some of them for my blogging and other things this holiday season. Have a great Christmas Sunny! I'm so glad to see you back blogging again.
DeleteThis is the first year in...like...eVER that I've actually decided to have a project going!! I'm doing a rewrite of my ghostly book over Christmas. hehe. I'm actually kind of excited, because I'm going to be pausing my rabid reading and just focus on writing and eating fruit mince pies *AHEM* I mean, participating in family holiday cheer over the next few weeks. :D It should be fun. hehe. I think holidays are meant to be less pressure-ful though, so if you need time off...take it!!

DeleteAhahaha I said I would post over the Christmas holiday but now I'm kind of regretting that? I have no idea what I'm posting and all I want to do is sit around and eat brownies and pizza. :P I maybe do a random post of sorts. *shrug* We'll see what happens.
