Top Ten Authors I've Only Read One Book From But NEED to Read More

15:30

You know that feeling when you finish an amazing book and you immediately get the urge to go out and read every single one of the author’s other books? It’s the best feeling in the world to find a new author whose books I love, but it’s frustrating when I can’t immediately start reading the rest of their novels. For this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly link-up hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, I’m sharing some of the authors I need to read more than one book from. Sadly, this week I’m only able to list five authors, because generally when I get that urge, I go out and devour all their other books at once, so I don’t have many authors who fit that description.

Ransom Riggs
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

It actually took me quite a while to give this book a chance. I borrowed it from the library several times, having heard vague things about it being a good book. It wasn’t until my sister and some blogging friends started recommending it to me however, that I finally got around to reading it. This book is amazing! It’s filled with creepy old pictures and the plot has got awesome elements like time loops in it as well. I definitely want to read the sequel now.

Marissa Meyer
Cress

I mention Marissa Meyer most weeks in my Top Ten Tuesday posts, but after I first read Cress, I knew I’d found a new favourite writer. I actually now own her first two books, Cinder and Scarlet, on Kindle, and I’m dying to read them. I just have a massive amount of other books I need to finish up reading before I can get to them. Sigh.

Victoria Hanley
The Seer and the Sword

I first read The Seer and the Sword several years ago. At that point I was totally against any form of romance in books. I’d rather have an adventure thank you very much. This book had the best written romance, as well as an amazing adventure, and magic, and evil family members. It had everything. It’s still one of my favourite books today. I’ve never read any of Victoria Hanley’s other books, but I would love to have the chance to see what else she’s written.

Patrick Ness
The Knife of Never Letting Go

Patrick Ness is more of a want than a need. I enjoyed reading The Knife of Never Letting Go, though it was quite a strange book and very different to what I was expecting. It got me interested enough in his writing that I would like to try more of his books sometime in the future. I happen to know that my library has the second book in the Chaos Walking series, so I might read that one at some point.

James Scott Bell
Revision and Self-Editing for Publication

James Scott Bell is my current non-fiction read. I’ve been reading through his book about revision and editing to help me with my own editing, and I’ve found his book to be incredibly helpful and inspiring. I’d love to read his book on plot and structure as well. I’m sure that I would learn a lot from that book too.

What authors do you NEED to read more books from? Are you like me and devour all their books at once? Or are you more self-controlled than me?

Have you been to visit my Facebook page yet? There’s loads of extras on there. Why not pop over and have a look around?

  1. Haha, for the most part I am definitely like you which is why it was so hard for me to make this weeks list! Luckily I'm great at not reading sequels so that fixed my problems for this weeks list! =)
I am really torn about reading a Patrick Ness book because my brother and my mom both hated The Knife Of Never Letting Go and I tend to have really similar tastes as them...I'm torn. =)

    1. It's always so exciting to find a new author whose books you enjoy, isn't it? No wonder we run out and read a whole bunch more. I think I only managed this little list because my library is terrible when it comes to sequels. Otherwise I definitely wouldn't have many people on here at all!

The Knife of Never Letting Go seems to me to be one of those books that you either enjoy or you don't. The writing is very...unique. I was surprised to find that I liked it actually. If you're not sure, maybe just try the first chapter or so? That should give you a basic idea of if you're going to like it or not.

    1. You should definitely check out Marissa Meyer's book. They deserve all the praise they're getting. I need to wade through the rest of my TBR list as quickly as possible so I can read the other two!

  3. I really like Patrick Ness! A Monster Calls is AMAZING. It's MG but I couldn't..nope. I just. WOW. And I really liked More Than This, but it's very odd. I've got The Knife of Never Letting Go sitting on my ginormous pile of library books. Beckoning to me. ;) But I'm finishing Heir of Fire first. OH! But i hope you do read more of Marrisa Meyer! Here's my TTT!

    1. Oh I'll be reading more Marissa Meyer just as soon as I can clear away some of this reading pile. Her books are all so amazing. My sister has read all of her books and she's bugging me to read them now. I shall have to hunt out those Patrick Ness books and try them. He's an interesting writer. I think he's slowly growing on me.

  4. I've read Cinder, and I thought it was amazing. I can't wait to read the others, but I haven't found them at the library yet. I read The Seer and the Sword years ago too. I barely remember it, but I know I liked it. And I haven't read The Knife of Never Letting Go, but I have read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, and I would highly recommend it.

    1. I'll definitely have to find A Monster Calls and give it a try. Aren't libraries so annoying when they don't have the right books? I was so annoyed with mine because it got rid of Cinder and Scarlet right before I wanted to read them. Talk about unfortunate timing! I think you're one of the few people I've met who's read The Seer and the Sword. I'm all excited over that now.

I haven`t actually read ANY Patrick Ness, but I ALWAYS see him around and I want to read his books.

    1. It's such an interesting way of writing a book, isn't it, basing it off all the old photographs. They were so cool. I really can't wait to see what happens in The Hollow City. I know my library has it at the moment so I'm hoping I can get it soon.
Patrick Ness seems to be big at the moment, though I don't know why. I only borrowed The Knife of Never Letting Go because I saw it mentioned all over the place.

  7. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is the only book on this list that I have read, but I devoured it! And you've given me a few other reading ideas. :)

    1. I'm always happy to hear I was able to suggest some books. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children has such a unique take on the whole super powers idea, doesn't it? I'm really looking forward to reading the second one now. Thanks for visiting!

  8. OMG MERISSA MEYER AND PATRICK NESS! They are the authors of my favorite series ever! I'm planning to read MPHFPC soon- right now I'm trying to finish Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series- which is pretty good, being a fairy tale type of fantasy and all.
Your blog is beautiful (: am following.

    1. They're pretty amazing writers, aren't they? I've seen Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series in my library a few times but haven't tried it yet. I do love fairy tales and fantasy though. Would you recommend it?
